Two cameramen of TV 3 Network have been assaulted by New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters, who claim the results of the 2012 Elections were manipulated by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Steven Boadi was attacked on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 when he was covering the party’s protest rally at the Holy Gardens at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
Andy Ntiamoah suffered a similar ordeal on Sunday at the Asylum Down head office of the Party.
According to Mr Boadi, he was slapped by the supporters for no apparent reason and for no wrongdoing. He said he only got to the venue to carry out his routine duty as a cameraman but ended up in the hospital.
"I was beaten and booted," he said with a swollen face.
Meanwhile, Bright Blewu, General Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association, has condemned attacks on journalists by aggrieved NPP supporters.
“We condemn all such attacks,” he said in no uncertain terms.
“This is a violation of press freedom,” he added.
He said such act by the supporters was disgraceful.
“If we believe in press freedom and free media, we should condemn this disgraceful behavior,” he said on TV 3’s News 360.
He mentioned that at the appropriate time the Association will issue an official statement to condemn the acts.
