Ampomah was named 2015 Male Athlete of the Year while 100m and 200m expert Janet Amponsah was named 2015 Female Athlete of the Year.
The two were among seven shortlisted Ghanaian athletes voted on by experts as well as local and international journalists.
The original list was made up of 10 athletes each for the two categories.
But US-based Ampomah beat competition from decathlete Atsu Nyamadi, pole-vaulter Jordan Yamoah and 400m runner Alex Amankwah - who were shortlisted in the men’s category - to emerge winner.
Ampomah, a police officer, expressed gratitude for the award.
“This recognition I believe will have much impact on some of us psychologically and this award will encourage all of us to work hard and do our possible best no matter what it takes because now we know we have good people who will encourage us in all situations,” the nine-time national record breaker told www.liquidsportsghana.com.
He dedicated the award to his teammates.
In the women’s category, javelin thrower Mary Zuta and triple-jumper Nadia Eke could not beat off competition from Janet Amponsah though they made it into the final three.
Amponsah aided Ghana’s 4 X 100m team to Silver at the 2015 All Africa Games.
The event was under the auspices of Liquid Sports Ghana and supported by Ethiopian Airlines.
